Two positions are open at the Institute of Logic and Cognition at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China:

1. Full-time Researcher

The Institute of Logic and Cognition (http://logic.sysu.edu.cn/english/Index.asp) at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China (http://www.sysu.edu.cn/2012/en/index.htm) invites applications for 2 non-tenure-track, 3-year renewable appointments as full-time researcher in Argumentation Theory. The position includes mainly flexible research tasks in argumentation studies, with (preferably) a focus on studying argumentative practices from a social-cultural perspective.

(There will be a minimum requirement for this position regarding its working tasks; it could be negotiated according to the regulation of Sun Yat-sen University.)

The persons hired into this position will be required to initiate a research program on argumentation in the Institute of Logic and Cognition, and to publish internationally his/her research results. There will be no obligatory teaching loads, but it is preferable if you could also instruct an undergraduate course or a graduate seminar in the institute. Salary will be commensurate with your academic level and experience, ranging from￥240,000 (＄36, 000) to￥350,000 (＄52, 500) every year before taxes. You can have two month vacation every year (normally in Feb. and August). We will provide the health insurance and basic office facilities. There will also be adequate funding for your research and for attending international conferences.

The recruitment begins in September 2015, and will continue to be open until all available positions are appointed. Basic requirements for the position include a PhD in a field related to Argumentation Theory, and some publications in peer-reviewed journals.

2. Full-time Researcher

The Institute of Logic and Cognition (http://logic.sysu.edu.cn/english/Index.asp) at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, P. R. China (http://www.sysu.edu.cn/2012/en/index.htm) is inviting applications for a non-tenure-track, 3-year renewable full-time research job in the use of methods of social sciences in research on argumentation in cross-cultural communications.

Applicants should hold a PhD and have demonstrated research skills, particularly in such as conversation analysis, discourse analysis, etc. Proficiency in Chinese language would be an asset.

The position focuses on the use of methods of social science in cross-cultural communications, especially argumentation therein. Publication requirements negotiable annexed. No obligatory teaching loads, but it will be preferable if you could also undertake course for undergraduate course or seminar for graduate at the institute. Salary will be in accordance with qualification and experience, ranging from￥240,000 (＄36, 000) to￥350,000 (＄52, 500) before taxes per annum. Bonus based on individual performance provided. Two-month paid annual vacation (generally in February and August) provided. Basic office facilities provided. Fund support regarding hosting and attending international conferences provided.
